Ingredients

500 grams minced beef
1 grated carrot
1 large onion (chopped)
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 tablespoon tomato puree
1 tablespoon good quality tomato ketchup
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
2 teaspoons mixed herbs
1 teaspoon sugar
2 beef stock cubes
175 ml red wine or white wine
pepper & salt to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
pack of dried spaghetti, egg or durham wheat

How To Make Spaghetti Bolognese

  1. Heat olive oil in a heavy pan (medium heat).
  2. Add the onions and grated carrot and fry until translucent and soft
  3. Add the mince and brown well without burning.
  4. Add the crushed garlic cloves,  pinch of pepper and salt, stir and fry for 1 min.
  5. Add the beef stock cubes, mixed herbs, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, ketchup and 1/2 pint water, and bring to the boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 -25 mins until tender and piping hot throughout.

Cooking The Spaghetti

Fill a large saucepan or stockpot with water. Depending on the size of the pot, fill it from 1/2 to 3/4 full with water to more than cover the pasta.

Cover the saucepan with a tight fitting lid and place onto high heat.

Leave the saucepan covered until the water comes to a rolling boil. The addition of the lid will allow the water to heat up more quickly and save time and energy.

Remove the lid and add a little salt when the water reaches boiling point.

Remove the packaging from the spaghetti or pasta and break it in half.

Gently lower the spaghetti into the boiling water.

Allow the spaghetti to cook for approximately 10 minutes, occasionally stirring it to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Occasionally check the spaghetti to see if it’s done. When the pasta reaches al dente, it will be firm in the middle but chewy.

Empty the contents of the pot into the colander to drain the liquid. Return to saucepan.
Add a small amount of olive oil or butter to the pasta and toss to coat. The Perfect Spaghetti Bolognese – easy recipe.

Add spaghetti to a serving bowl and top with the Bolognese sauce. Garnish with Fresh basil leaves and halved cherry tomatoes for a special occasion.
